EPFL Carbon Team
Capture CO₂ directly from the atmosphere
OUR GOAL
We aim to develop a CO₂ capture prototype using low-cost materials and minimal energy, and developing ways to reuse or store the CO₂, with a strong focus on real-world impact. We seek to advance existing solutions while staying mindful of their implications, ensuring carbon removal is both effective and responsible.
OUR TECHNOLOGY
Our prototype combines two technologies developed in EPFL labs we collaborate with. The first module, Astérix, contains adsorbents that capture CO₂ and release it when heated, producing an air flow enriched in CO₂. This flow is then directed to the second module, Idéfix, which contains a graphene membrane that allows only CO₂ to pass, enabling us to obtain an almost pure stream of CO₂, ready for storage or use.
